Description

This study examined the role of Community Outreach for Development and Welfare Advocacy (CODWA) in promoting good governance in Ilorin, Kwara State. The research focused on key governance indicators such as transparency, accountability and citizen participation and also assessed the extent to which CODWA contributes to community development and welfare improvement. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. Data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to respondents within Ilorin Metropolis. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages, mean, and weighted mean scores. Findings from the study revealed that CODWA plays a significant role in promoting civic awareness, encouraging citizen participation in governance and supporting community welfare initiatives. However, the organization faces challenges such as inadequate funding, limited manpower and operational constraints, which affect its effectiveness. The study concluded that although CODWA contributes positively to good governance in Ilorin, there was still need for institutional strengthening and increased support to enhance its impact. The study therefore recommended improved funding from relevant government agencies such as the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the Ministry of Women Affairs, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) stronger collaboration with government agencies, and capacity building for staff and volunteers
