Description

Effective communication is fundamental to quality healthcare, particularly in fertility care where emotional support, informed consent, diagnosis, and treatment options depend on mutual understanding between healthcare providers and patients. However, language diversity remains a significant barrier, especially for international patients seeking fertility services in Kenya. Studies show that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing healthcare communication by providing 24/7 patient support, personalized interactions and facilitating communication between healthcare professionals and patients who do not share a common language. Consequently, this study examines the role of AI in reducing language barriers within fertility clinics in Nakuru County, Kenya. Guided by the principles of inclusive innovation and Industry 5.0, the study explores how AI-enabled communication tools enhance patient-provider interactions, improve access to information, and support patient-centered healthcare without replacing the role of healthcare professionals. The study adopts a mixed-methods descriptive design. Key Informant Interviews will be conducted with 5 consultant gynaecologists and fertility specialists from selected fertility clinics in Nakuru County to explore their experiences and perceptions of AI-assisted communication. Structured questionnaires administered to 15 healthcare staff and a sample of 20 patients to assess the frequency of AI use, perceived effectiveness, benefits, and communication challenges. The study aims to contributes to the growing discourse on science, technology, and innovation by demonstrating how AI can support inclusive healthcare delivery and sustainable health systems through improved communication. Moreover, showcase the ability
of AI to comprehend health information by translating medical records into patient-friendly language as well as multi-discipline fields.
